What this site collects, and what it does not

Your answers are worked out in your browser

The questions on Get ready for your appointment are answered by code running on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere. There is no account, no form that posts, and no address for the answers to be sent to.

While you are working through the questions, your answers are held in something browsers call session storage. Two things follow from that:

• They stay on your device only.
• They are erased when you close the tab. Not when you clear your history later — when the tab closes.

If you want them gone sooner, there is a Clear my answers button on that page. It is on the page itself, not buried in a menu.

If you share a device with someone, close the tab when you are done and the answers are gone.

Nothing is in the web address

Look at the address bar while you answer the questions. It does not change.

That is deliberate. Many sites carry answers in the web address, after a ? or a #. It is easy to build that way, and it is the wrong choice here. Web addresses are saved into your browser history. They are sent to other sites when you click a link. They get synced to whatever account your browser is signed in to.

So your answers are kept out of the address entirely. They never reach your history and never travel in a link.

What is not here at all

• No cookies. This site sets none.
• No advertising, and no advertising trackers.
• No third-party scripts, with one exception we describe below. No fonts loaded from another company, no maps, no chat widget, no social buttons, no video embeds. The fonts and the site’s own code are served from this site. The single script loaded from elsewhere is our own page counter.
• No sign-up, no email capture, no “notify me”. There is nowhere on this site to leave your details.
• No sale or sharing of anything about you, because there is nothing about you to sell or share.

This is enforced, not merely intended. The site sends a rule to your browser telling it to refuse to load anything from anywhere else. If someone working on this site ever added an outside script by accident, the page would break rather than quietly start reporting on you.

The one exception: we count page views

We count how many times each page is read. It is the only thing this site records, and it is worth being exact about it.

The counting is done by Umami, which runs on our own server at stats.fleetopsmgr.com. It is not Google Analytics and it is not a company we send your visit to. It sets no cookie and no identifier that could follow you to another website.

For each page view it records:

• which page was opened, and the page you arrived from if you followed a link
• your browser and operating system, your screen size, and your language setting
• the country your connection appears to be in

Your internet address — the IP address your connection carries — is used to work out the country and to make a temporary, scrambled marker, so that two page views in one visit are not counted as two people. That marker cannot be turned back into your address, it changes every day, and the address itself is not stored.

What it does not record: your answers, anything you typed, or anything that names you. It cannot — the counting code and the questions have nothing to do with each other, and the answers never leave your browser to begin with.

If you would rather not be counted, blocking that one address, or turning off JavaScript, stops it. Every page on this site works without JavaScript. On the questions page you get the complete checklist instead of the tailored one.

Checking this yourself

You do not have to take our word for any of it. In most browsers, pressing F12 opens a panel with a Network tab that lists every request the page makes. Answer the questions with it open. You will see the page, the stylesheet, the fonts, and the one line for the page counter — and nothing carrying your answers, because no such request is made.
